Scholarship Bios

 

Nicholas Stroud of Lake Oswego, Oregon is a Sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, graduating in June 2012. After graduation he would like to work for a civil consulting firm that does quality, ethical work, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly designs. He says, “This is important to me because I don’t think that I could end each day and live a happy life, unless I am happy and satisfied with the work that I am doing and the contribution that I am giving back to society.” Activities that he enjoys outside of school include intramural water polo and basketball.

Megan O’Connor of Battle Ground, Washington is a second year winner of this scholarship. She is a Junior at Washington State University. She will graduate Spring 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Her goal is to improve the lives of others and the environment in which they live, both now, and in the future. In her application she says, “I am thankful and appreciate the doors the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship award money has already opened for me. I know this year’s award will open many more doors for me or for anyone else who is fortunate enough to earn it.” She is a member of ASCE, Engineers Without Borders & Society of Women Engineers. In her free time she is a volunteer coach for Battle Ground High School.

Julie Rausch of Richland, Washington is a Junior at Washington State University majoring in Civil Engineering. After graduating she is eager to get out in the world and see if her ideas can apply to actual problems which could improve some of our day-to-day living. She says, “I think working in construction would be a fulfilling career as I would not only get to work with what I love, but I could help people at the same time.” She is involved with the math, environmental, and engineering clubs. In her spare time she enjoys many activities including dancing, sewing, baking, and snowboarding.

Jennifer Charpilloz of Hubbard, Oregon is a Junior in Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University. Her career goals and path are in construction engineering, but she says, “In the end it will really be taking me down the path of my dreams. I would really love someday to make a difference in the world, and if it is through building efficient, low cost housing or through green buildings, I know I will love my work.” She is involved with the Society of Women Engineers, Associated General Contractors, Engineers Without Borders, and many more organizations.

Scholarship Award: $3,000.00

Tyler Holly of Sweet Home, Oregon is a Senior at Sweet Home High School. He plans on attending Oregon State University in the fall majoring in Civil Engineering. His career goal is to work for a reputable firm or with a government agency, and to work with experienced engineers to gain knowledge from those with real life experience so he can learn and grow and to provide a great future for himself and his family. In his free time he is a Sunday school teacher, coach, referee, and volunteers in his community.

Amanda Petermann of Kennewick, Washington is a Sophomore at Washington State University pursuing her degree in Civil Engineering. She says, “An important feature that really defines who I am is that I thrive in a challenging atmosphere. I chose Civil Engineering because I knew it was going to be extremely difficult at times, but rewarding in the end.” She is involved with intramural soccer, humane society, snowboarding, hiking, and running.

Christopher Duty of Molalla, Oregon is a Senior at Molalla High School. He plans on attending Oregon State University majoring in Construction Engineering Management. After graduating from college he would like to work for a construction company as a project engineer and eventually have the opportunity to buy into a well operating construction business. Chris interned this last summer with Advance American Construction. He is involved with Future Farmers of America, American Motorcycle Association, and Oregon High School Equestrian Teams.

Tyler Ross of Eugene, Oregon is a Sophomore at Boise State University majoring in Construction Engineering Management. He says, “I see my career as a vision to get the job done at whatever personal cost, the character to carry through in difficult times, and the discipline of waking up each day to strive to be better as a person and as an employee of the construction industry.” He interned with Advanced American Construction last summer. “I was fortunate enough to work under an established project manager and two motivated young project engineers. I learned more about the construction industry from those three men in three months than I have all my life.” Tyler enjoys intramural sports and fishing.

Ryann Nolan of Yamhill, Oregon is a Freshman at Linfield College pursuing a degree in Business Management and Economics. “Growing up around so many construction projects has instilled the idea that construction will always be a part of my life.” She would eventually like to manage a construction company. She interned with Advanced American Construction the summer of 2009 and will do the same this summer. She is involved with track and field, ballroom dancing, and showing horses.

Tanner Robinson of Spokane, Washington is a Senior at North Central High School. He is planning on attending Brigham Young University majoring in either Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering. One of his goals in life is to make a true difference in the world. “Through my career as a biochemist, I hope to be able to come up with more efficient and cheaper materials and methods to be used in construction.” He is involved with cross country, wrestling, track, Boy Scouts of America, and the National Honor Society.

Chad Drake of East Wenatchee, Washington is a Sophomore at Washington State University majoring in Civil Engineering. His goal is to establish himself as a quality and successful engineer, providing opportunities for career advancement. Chad wrote, “With a strong work ethic and a lead by example mentality, I hope to have the opportunities to engage in more impacting roles and leadership-type positions.” He is involved with the WSC Concrete Canoe Team, horticulture club, and intramural sports.
