Scholarship Bios | Chad Drake of East Wenatchee, Washington is a second year winner of this scholarship. He is a junior at Washington State University majoring in Civil Engineering. His goal is to establish himself as a quality and successful engineer, providing opportunities for career advancement. “With a strong work ethic and a lead by example mentality, I hope to have the opportunities to engage in more impacting roles and leadership-type positions.” He is involved with the WSC Concrete Canoe Team, horticulture club, and intramural sports.

|  | Nicholas Stroud of Lake Oswego, Oregon is a second year winner of this scholarship. He is a junior at Oregon State University, working towards a BA in Civil Engineering. His professional interests are in structural and seismic engineering. This past year he was a member of the Oregon State seismic engineering team and won first place in the international EERI balsa wood structure seismic design competition in San Diego. Outside of the field of engineering, he is passionately dedicated to his job as a Center Manager for Dixon, Oregon State’s recreation center. |  | Jason Powell of Corvallis, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University majoring in Construction Engineering Management, German, and Spanish. “If I could own a construction firm and employ many happy, successful employees who loved their job and could work in an environment where they felt accepted and appreciated, I would feel like I had made a difference.” Jason enjoys jamming on his guitar and roughing up his younger brother and other high schoolers by volunteering with the wrestling team at Crescent Valley High School. |  | Amanda Petermann of Kennewick, Washington is a second year winner of this scholarship. She is a junior at Washington State University pursuing her degree in Civil Engineering. She says, “My goal is to help people improve their quality of life and to help the engineering world in any way possible. Furthermore, I aspire to be as successful and as loved as Forrest and Konrad, to be a leader, and to be the best at what I do.” She is involved with ASCE, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, intramural soccer, snowboarding, and parenting two Labrador Retrievers. Scholarship Award: $3,000.00 |  | Mitchell Harper of Spokane, Washington is a senior at Reardan High School. He plans on attending the University of Washington majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. “Having always felt a predilection towards the sciences, I am extremely curious on all fronts of electronic circuitry. I would like to be on the leading edge of innovation, and explore the possibilities of computer technology.” He is involved with Boy Scouts of America, Future Business Leaders of America, and National Honor Society. He will be attending the University of Portland majoring in Civil or Mechanical Engineering. “Leadership is one of my greatest traits. I love to organize and make sure that all jobs will be completed. Overseeing the building process of such large-scale construction projects will be amazing. Safety is always most important, and this has been ingrained in me for all of my life.” He has played basketball, football, and baseball all four years of high school. Scholarship Award $3,000.00 |  | Daniel Shin of Kapolei, Hawaii is a junior at Washington State University majoring in Civil Engineering. “Last summer, I held an internship with Nan, Inc. located in Hawaii, by the end of my internship, I was able to effectively perform takeoffs and visualize the construction process from the plans. I also realized that communication is very important in any task and skills such as punctuality, time management, and responsibility are needed as well.” He is involved with many activities some include Amercian Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Engineering Without Borders (EWB). Daniel likes to play golf, hike, swim, and snowboard.

The goals I have set for myself are self-defined challenges that I am determined to overcome through accomplishment.” She is a member of ASCE, ASCE Concrete Canoe Club, and ASCE Bridge Club. Scholarship Award $2,000.00 |  | Christopher Duty of Molalla, Oregon is a second year winner of this scholarship. He is a freshman at Oregon State University where he is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. After receiving his degree, he plans to work for a heavy civil construction company as a project engineer. Chris’s long term goal is to become a partner of a well operating construction company. Over the last two years, Chris has interned with Advanced American Construction during summer and holiday breaks. He has had the privilege to intern on large scale marine projects which he says “has contributed to the best learning experience of his life thus far.” Chris is actively involved in the Associated General Contractors of Oregon State University where he currently holds the position as the Freshman Representative. Scholarship Award $2,000.00 |  | Ryan Nolan of Yamhill, Oregon is a second year winner of this scholarship. She is a sophmore at Linfield College pursuing a degree in Business Management and Economics. “Growing up around so many construction projects has instilled the idea that construction will always be a part of my life.” She would eventually like to manage a construction company. She interned with Advanced American Construction the summer of 2009 and 2010. She is a Residents Advisor at Linfield. She participates in track and field, and shows horses. Scholarship Award $2,000.00 |  | Jesse Graham of Keizer, Oregon is a junior at Oregon State University majoring in Construction Engineer Management with a minor in Business Management. “My main career goal is to enjoy my work day in and day out. Knowing that, I feel that construction management is the right career path for me. As a Construction Engineer Manager I want to work with people all over the industry creating good business connections and relationships.” In his free time as a Sigma Chi member they do charitable giving and community service. Also he enjoys intramural sports, motocross racing, working out, and staying fit. To me, it’s not about profit, it’s about people.” She is involved in various extra-curricular activities, including AGC Student Chapter and Mentor’s Forum Focus Groups.
