Eric Nolan of Yamhill, Oregon will be a senior at George Fox University next fall, where he plans to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation Eric hopes to pursue a career related to marine construction or steel fabrication as a project manager/project engineer. Eric worked for Oregon Iron Works last summer as a mechanical engineering intern. He says, “I am grateful for the opportunities, internships and rewarding experiences the Schweiger Scholarship has given me.” This is Eric’s third year as a Schweiger Scholarship recipient and has also received a Science Scholarship and a Miller/Leadership Award from George Fox University. Eric is the president of the George Fox University chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. With his free time Eric enjoys working on his dune buggy, backpacking and riding his horses. Eric is returning to his internship this summer with Oregon Iron Works, excited to learn more about the steel construction industry.

Jesi Young of Perrydale, Oregon is a Junior at Oregon State University studying Construction Engineering Management. She says that classes have gotten much more challenging and interesting as she has begun her professional level course work and looks forward to the future. “I only hope that others are able to get such an amazingly diverse experience as they go through college, and amazing groups such as Schweiger are around to make that possible. I look forward to a time when I can be on the giving end of such a great opportunity.” In her free time Jesi likes to be outdoors playing sports, hiking, and scuba diving.

Ryan Edwards of Amboy, Washington is a Junior at Washington State University where he is studying Civil Engineering. After graduation, Ryan plans to work for a heavy civil general contractor because he enjoys the involvement and preparation required on any construction site. Ryan would also like to become PE certified and to be elected to a leadership position in a local AGC chapter. Non-classroom learning is important to Ryan who says “I feel that the hands on experience I get from extra-curricular activities is an important part of my education which has taught me how to apply what I learn everyday in the classroom.” Ryan is involved with the WSU Timber Bridge Team, Steel Bridge Team and the Forestry Club.

Marcus Miller of Tri-Cities, Washington is a Junior in the Civil Engineering program at Washington State University. A second year Scholarship recipient, he enjoys learning the technical skills that engineering classes have to offer. Equally important to him are the communication, people and time management skills that he learns from being a steel bridge captain and an officer in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter. Marcus looks forward to being the chapter president beginning in the fall semester of next year, and helping to coordinate the ASCE Regional Conference when WSU hosts it next April. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with his family and almost any recreational activity.

Jessica Hamilton of Battle Ground, Washington, is a second-year recipient and a Junior Civil Engineering major at the University of Portland. She is the President-elect of the Society of Women Engineers and the Vice President-elect of Tau Beta Pi. She is very involved in tutoring student athletes and freshmen students who are on academic probation. Upon graduation, she plans to work for a couple of years and then attend graduate school, studying either transportation or structural engineering. In her free time, Jessica enjoys traveling and running.

Lukas Paulsen of Issaquah, Washington is a Junior at Washington State University, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management. After graduation, Lukas plans on working for a general contractor and attending graduate school to get his masters in Construction Management. Eventually Lukas intends to start his own residential construction company that focuses on green building and sustainability. “With such a strong emphasis in the industry placed on commercial buildings meeting green building standards such as LEED, I feel I can help transition the technology into the residential sector.” In addition to being on the President’s Honor Roll, Lukas is a member of the Sigma Lambda Chi Honor Society for Construction Management and the recipient of an AGC Foundation Scholarship. In his free time, Lukas likes to stay active playing soccer and spend time with his family.

Marty Flansburg of Washougal, Washington is a Junior at the University of Portland pursuing a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, Marty plans on attending graduate school to study structural engineering. Marty has worked in the construction industry for over ten years, the last three being with a structural engineering firm in Camas, WA. “As an engineer with construction experience it will be easier to communicate ideas and designs with architects and contractors.” Marty is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (Honor Society) and has been recognized on the National Dean’s List. When not working or attending school, Marty enjoys spending time with his wife, Kristy, and their two children.

Anna Ignatenko of Vancouver, Washington is a Junior at Portland State University, majoring in Accounting with a minor in Spanish. Anna’s plans include pursuing a graduate degree in Accounting and applying that to a non-profit she hopes to establish in rural areas of South America. This organization will help with basic construction of housing, sewage systems and provide education to many of the rural villages in need. Anna spends her time as an active member of the Financial Managerial Association and as a volunteer with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). Her hobbies and interests include science, volunteering, music, hiking, camping, fashion, yoga, photography, traveling, reading and painting. She is a valued employee at Advanced American Construction, where she is interning as an Accounting Clerk, processing Accounts Payable. Anna says, “I am thankful for the opportunities Advanced American Construction has given me with this scholarship and with real world experience in Accounting.”

Jessica Fuller of Kennewick, Washington is a Junior at Washington State University pursuing a degree in both Architecture and Construction Management. She is actively involved in many student organizations including Emerging Green Builders and American Institute of Architecture Students. Her career goal is to be involved with sports architecture and the construction of arenas, stadiums, recreation centers and other sports related sites with the ultimate goal of participating in the design and construction of Olympic Games venues. During her free time, Jessica enjoys coaching pole vaulters for the WSU Track and Field team.

Jordan Peterson of West Linn, Oregon is a Junior at Oregon State University in Construction Engineering Management. Jordan has been a life-long Oregon State fan and chose engineering because of the practical problem solving skills he would learn. His favorite part about the CEM program so far, is seeing how information learned in the classroom transfers into real world construction. Jordan hopes to one day own a general contracting company where he would like to focus on special projects that will have a positive, public benefit for years to come. Jordan is a member of the Associated General Contractors OSU Student Chapter and enjoys the presentations by the industry professionals. His hobbies are golf, basketball and fishing and he always loves to travel to root on his Beavers!

Jennifer Charpilloz of Hubbard, Oregon is a Sophomore in Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University. She loves to stay involved and keep busy. She is the Treasurer of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society
and is also an Academic Coach for the College of Engineering, helping students achieve their goals and become better students. The focus of this program is for freshmen on academic probation, but extends to help everyone in the College of Engineering. Jennifer’s future plans include pursuing additional education in business, surveying and owning her own business one day. In her free time she loves staying active and going on horse rides with her Grandpa.

Megan O’Connor of Battle Ground, Washington is a Junior at Washington State University - Vancouver. She plans to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She would like to use her engineering knowledge in the future for the betterment of society. After graduation, she would like to join the Peace Corps and plans to attend graduate school. She says, “Earning this scholarship has been an honor, and I am grateful for this opportunity that the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship Fund has given to me.” She is a volunteer high school basketball coach, helps tutor friends in math and is a member of Engineers Without Borders. In her free time she enjoys volunteering, playing basketball, and spending time outdoors hiking, rock climbing, and mountain climbing.
