Project Description

Advanced American Construction began this $9 million upgrade to the New Young’s Bay Bridge in June of 2007, the first substantial upgrade since being built in 1964. The bridge carries 14,000 vehicles, from log trucks to motorcycles, between Astoria and Warrenton daily. Improvements during this project included structural upgrades, a remodeled bridge operator's house, replacement of the lift-span electrical systems and installation of safety barriers and traffic gates. A new underwater submarine power cable was plowed in by Advanced American Construction, Inc. to replace power lines that were previously attached to the bridge's superstructure . The bridge received a new coat of green paint that is expected to last 15-20 years. The extreme weather conditions and access played a dynamic role in the overall production of this project.
